Fujitsu Iris: an Augmented Reality enabled Tablet

Future use of Augmented Reality technology will strongly depend on the availability of devices that are best suited for Augmented Reality visualization. Fujitsu has recently launched a new concept device that is meant to support AR with state of the art visualization hardware. The device is a  tablet PC and it’s name is Fujitsu Iris.

The new Tablet has got a camera, a scan sensor, is compatible with pen input but most interestingly it comes with a GPS sensor, a compass and with a transparent OLED screen that is suitable to enable augmented reality. OLED  refers to organic light emitting diodes, that is light-emitting diodes (LED) in which the emissive electroluminescent layer is a film of organic compounds which emit light in response to an electric current. Also some of the recent Head Mounted Displays use this same technology.
