The HIT Lab NZ has just released a cool application dubbed ”colAR“ that demonstrates the next step in the evolution of the Magic Book concept.
colAR brings colouring book pages to life with the aid of Augmented Reality. Kids can colour in the book pages and then see them come to life as animated virtual images on their computer screen. Markerless tracking is used to seamlessly overlay virtual content on the book pages.
The HIT Lab NZ is providing this software for free for the Christchurch Kidsfest 2011 event. The application shows a normal colouring page as a pop up image through a web camera. It captures the colours that are drawn so that each coloured page will have a unique Augmented Reality scene.
